Our Strength Is Our Solidarity

Welcome back to the 2024 -25 School Year!

While summer may now be in the rear view mirror, I hope the relaxation and fun you enjoyed will carry you forward into your daily practice as the new year starts to accelerate.

The beginning of school brings its challenges, but it also brings successes. Whether you’re working through master schedule kinks at the secondary level or reorganizing classes at the elementary level, one thing is clear: you all work incredibly hard, no matter your grade level or assignment.

As educators, we all care deeply about our students, but we can’t effectively help them if we’re exhausted and stretched thin by paperwork, testing, and other demands. This isn’t sustainable in the long run. To give our best to students, we must support each other and stand together as educators. By doing so, we gain control over our days and the issues that challenge us.

We are not a one-size-fits-all district, nor are we a group that focuses on a single interest. Together, CUEA represents all of us with one shared purpose—to do what’s best for the students in our classrooms. One perfect example is the way we approach our lessons with creativity and our personal flair; yet, when we speak together using our collective voice in a united message, there's nothing we can't do! Our union’s strength truly lies in the solidarity of our members.

To that end, you will see us at your individual school sites throughout the year. We have much to share and we want to hear from YOU, our members. CUEA leadership will be visiting your sites. Keep an eye out for the calendar, which is currently being finalized, to know when we’ll be visitng. In the meantime, be sure to attend the 10 Minute Meetings at your site to receive the most current CUEA information.

Though we may have our differences, every voice in our association is crucial to how we move forward. Few people agree 100% with any group or organization’s actions, but representative governance depends on active participation. Together, we are stronger, and together we can continue to accomplish great things.

Amazing accomplishments are happening in our classrooms each and every day! Our test scores, AP passage rates, and graduation rates don't remain at the the top of the leaderboard by accident. We know Capistrano Unified EDUCATORS are truly invested in the whole child, both educationally and emotionally. We undoubtedly have great things in store for 2024 - 25.

Sincerely,

Joy Schnapper

President, Capistrano Unified Education Association
