Legal Protection Educators Employment Liability Insurance (EEL)
A person is automatically covered by EEL insurance as soon as a CUEA membership enrollment form has been signed and returned to the CUEA office. Membership forms are available by calling (949) 900-2280 or from CUEA Building Representatives. This liability insurance provides up to $1,000,000 of coverage to members for legal defense costs in civil suits (except civil rights cases) brought against a member based on some occurrence during the course of his or her employment. In civil rights cases the coverage is $250,000. This coverage extends beyond the classroom to school-sponsored activities where the member is responsible for supervising students. There is also up to $35,000 available for attorneys in criminal proceedings when the member is exonerated. This policy also provides up to $500 for personal property damages caused by an assault during or as a result of a member's employment.
How to file a claim:

NEA Dues-Tab Life Insurance - Accidental Death
and Dismemberment (AD&D)
This benefit is available to any CUEA member automatically. There is nothing to buy and no premium payments to make. All that is necessary is that the person signs the CUEA membership enrollment form and return it to the CUEA office. Membership forms are available by calling (949) 900-2280 or from CUEA Building Representatives. This insurance is in addition to the CTA AD&D policy that is also automatic with membership enrollment. The NEA Dues-Tab program provides up to $1,000 in life insurance benefit, ($100 per year for each continuous year of NEA membership up to 10 years), up to $5,000 for accidental death and dismemberment, and up to $50,000 should the member die due to an accident or assault while in the course of his or her employment or while conducting Association business. NEA Professional Library
The NEA Professional Library offers for sale a wealth of books specifically related to education and teaching. Member discounts are available for CUEA/NEA members. Many of the books are written by classroom teachers, such as the books in the Teacher-to-Teacher series. Books are catalogued by grade level and by subject discipline. NEA Liability Insurance Medical Arts Endorsement
Members in the employment categories of School Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Dental Hygienists, and Athletic Trainers are eligible for extended coverage through the Medical Arts Endorsement of the Horace Mann Educators Employment Liability insurance program.
The extended endorsement will provide coverage for teaching and supervising activities of nurses, occupational therapists and physical therapists. Dental hygienists and athletic trainer will receive coverage for rendering services and teaching and supervising activities. The annual premium cost is $10.60 per member for categories other than athletic trainer. For athletic trainers the annual premium is $53.00 per member.

To receive a full year's coverage (from 9/1 through 8/31) checks must be received by CTA by October 6. After that date, coverage will begin on the date that the check is received by Horace Mann Insurance Company.
