Group Legal Services
CTA, in conjunction with NEA, brings to each member the benefit of its Group Legal Services (GLS) Program. To support this program CTA retains several attorney firms throughout California whose attorneys are skilled in school law and labor law. CTA also retains a firm in Sacramento that specializes in credential problems and credential hearings. The most commonly known benefit of the GLS program is the ability to receive counsel from a GLS attorney for 1 hour for general legal issues relating to member employment and for 3 hours for legal issues concerning child endangerment without cost to the member. Following the allocated free time, the GLS attorney may request of CTA additional time without charge to the member or subsequent time is available at a substantially reduced rate to CTA members. Access to this service is available only through the CTA Executive Director at the CUEA office at (949) 900-2280. To be eligible a person must be a member in good standing at the time the occasion warranting legal assistance occurred. A member is also eligible for a ½ hour free attorney consult with regard to non-employment legal matters, with subsequent time also at a discounted rate.
