Two Important Mailings

After the holiday season has passed each year and your home mailbox is probably overflowing with cards from friends and neighbors as well as the ubiquitous shopping mailers. CUEA urges you to sift through that pile of mail and read two pieces of important information from your state retirement fund, CalSTRS.
At the end of each year CalSTRS mails to you the Annual State of Account. This document details your years of service credit, your contributions to CalSTRS, and the interest you have earned for both your Defined Benefit and Defined Benefit Supplement accounts as of June 30 each year. When reviewing these numbers, keep in mind that your monthly retirement benefit is calculated based upon your years service credit, final salary compensation at the time of retirement and your age.
The second mailing you should have received was the CalSTRS Connections, a mini-magazine filled with informative articles about retirement-related topics. Even though you may not be even close to retirement age, it is not too early to begin learning about the many issues revolving retirement decisions.
You may contact CalSTRS via the web at www.calstrs.com, by phone at 800-228-5453, or write to them at
